A Marcia Brady Moment

"Oh my nose!" This time, is was not me being rushed to the hospital, but rather my better half. John was playing a game in his men's softball league, and while fielding a hot smash, the ball took a bad hop directly into his shnoze. He came home bloody and disfigured, so I thought a trip to the hospital was in order. If only we had known that the hospital visit would be the most painful part of the day...

After checking in with the triage nurse, were told to have a seat in "registration," which is where John would be logged into the Emergency system and a chart created for him. So we shuffle over to the registration desk. Mind you, John is holding a bloody towel up to his face, and I've got him by the arm guiding him into a chair. The first question the brainiac in registration asks is, "Who is the patient?" *Mental head slap* Then it's on to entering John into their system. Poor John is sitting in the chair with blood running all over and the chick at the desk is typing War and Peace. Apparently we've got some kind of computer glitch occurring. And, Stupid seems to think the harder she bangs on the keyboard the more likely it is that her system will take the information she has continuously tried to enter. 20 minutes and a lot of blood loss later, I flip out. It was a classic snap. I start screaming at Stupid who is still banging away on the keyboard and she basically tells me there is nothing that can be done for John because the system will not let her enter his information into it. At which point I turn to John and say, "Thank God you're not dying." I mean, WTF?

Finally, the triage nurse responds to the ruckus I'm causing and takes John into the Emergency treatment area. Where we then wait for over an hour before anyone even looks at him. Bless his heart. Poor John is in a lot of pain and no one could give a damn. He is finally taken to X ray, and I'm certain at this point that a doctor will be in shortly to examine John's nose and maybe give him something for the pain. Not. A girl walks in and introduces herself as "Wendy, the Physician's Assistant." Wendy pokes at John's nose a bit and leaves to look at his films. A few minutes later, some chick (who I swear I just saw emptying the trash cans) comes in and says John's films are negative and we're all set to go.

So basically, we've got a registration system that could potentially cause death, no doctor to be found , and a janitor who gives us the "all clear."

Ah, health care in America. WTF?!!!

Time To Grow Some Weed(s)

Spent part of yesterday afternoon (which just happened to be mine and John's 12 wedding anniversary) planting my crops. I really don't have a green thumb and even cacti are in danger around me. However, I do try to grow a couple of things in pots on my deck, if simply to re-inforce that fact that I'm a stone cold plant killer. We'll see what happens this year. I planted cherry tomatoes, green bell peppers and basil. Keep your fingers crossed.

So, one of the more interesting events in my life occurred about a month ago. My long lost friend, Christine, came back into my life after a 12 year hiatus. I'm not going to go into details, suffice to say that we've decided to let bygones be bygones and renew our friendship. I really couldn't be any happier. I always knew that I missed Christine, but I guess I never realized how much. Getting an e mail from her really made me realize how important she had been and will now continue to be to me. Yea! My long lost friend is back!

I'm finally back at the gym after a 3 week stint on the DL. I suffered some kind of wacky back injury and had to really slow down. Thankfully, the doctor gave me the go-ahead to work out and I'm now better able to handle my aggression. I've learned that I really need to excercise to keep my emotions in control. So I'm back to 3 nights a week with Sadist Sam. I truly believe she lies awake at night and dreams up ways to torture me. She's got my doing a modified squat to target my butt, which is great as it doesn't bother my knees at all.

That's all, Folks. Talk to you soon.

EDIT: My invitation must have been lost in the mail:

Party in Hell planned for 6-6-06

HELL, Michigan (AP) -- They're planning a hot time in Hell on Tuesday.
The day bears the date of 6-6-06, or abbreviated as 666 -- a number that carries hellish significance.
And there's not a snowball's chance in Hell that the day will go unnoticed in the unincorporated hamlet 60 miles west of Detroit.
Nobody is more fired up than John Colone, the town's self-styled mayor and owner of a souvenir shop.
"I've got `666' T-shirts and mugs. I'm only ordering 666 (of the items) so once they're gone, that's it," said Colone, also known as Odum Plenty. "Everyone who comes will get a letter of authenticity saying you've celebrated June 6, 2006, in Hell."
